History Beckons – Vishwaraj Jadeja to Lead India at Asian Winter Games 2025

New Delhi [India], December 11: Vishwaraj Jadeja, a trailblazing long-track speed skater from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is set to make history once again. From February 7-14, 2025, Harbin, China, will host the 9th Asian Winter Games, where Vishwaraj will represent India in three events: the 5,000-meter race, Team Pursuit, and Team Sprint. Notably, this marks the first time in history that India will field teams in the pursuit and sprint events, a monumental achievement for the nation.

The Asian Winter Games return after an eight-year hiatus, as the 2021 edition was canceled due to the pandemic. The last time these prestigious games were held was in 2017 in Sapporo, Japan.

2024 has already been a milestone year for Vishwaraj, who claimed a gold medal in the 10km event and silver medals in the 3km and 5km races at the Winter World Master Games in Baselga di Pinè, Italy. His unwavering determination continues to inspire, as he trains relentlessly in the Netherlands, preparing not only for the Asian Winter Games but also for qualification rounds for the 2026 Winter Olympics, scheduled to be held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, from February 6-22, 2026.

Despite the lack of elite infrastructure for long-track speed skating in India, Vishwaraj’s journey is a testament to his resilience and vision. His efforts to elevate the sport within India pave the way for future generations of athletes. With the weight of history on his shoulders and a nation’s hopes in his stride, Vishwaraj Jadeja is poised to script yet another chapter of greatness on the ice.
